Role Purpose

The Team Lead – MSAT (Product Group – Downstream) is responsible for providing scientific and operational leadership for downstream process support in a product-specific context. This includes leading activities related to purification processes such as chromatography, filtration (depth, TFF, UF/DF), and viral clearance in development, process validation, commercial or clinical manufacturing. This role ensures consistent, efficient, and compliant downstream manufacturing by managing technology transfer, process validation, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support. The Team Lead supervises a group of process scientists or engineers, drives cross-functional alignment, and supports regulatory and quality interactions.

Job Responsibility and key Decisions

Responsibilities

Lead MSAT downstream operations for a designated product group, supporting routine manufacturing and strategic initiatives.

Supervise and guide a team of scientistsengineers focused on downstream process support.

Provide floor support during purification campaigns and manage campaign readiness activities.

Support troubleshooting of process and equipment issues, driving quick resolution and robust documentation.

Oversee change controls, validations, and process monitoring for downstream unit operations.

Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to implement process improvements, tech transfers, and lifecycle upgrades.

Author and review key technical documents including protocols, reports, and investigation summaries.

Participate in audits and inspections, and support responses to regulatory questions.

Key Decisions

Approve parameter adjustments, hold times, or equipment substitutions based on risk assessments and process knowledge.

Decide on impact assessment, root causes and CAPAs for downstream process deviations and support escalation decisions.

Determine readiness for downstream process validation PPQ and change implementation.

Recommend process changes or continuous improvement strategies based on trend analysis and performance reviews.

Prioritize technical resources and team assignments across ongoing manufacturing and project needs.

Review key documentation relevant to downstream activities, including validation reports and investigation records.
